Holistic Spring Cleaning

Spring can represent an awakening of your total self. Here’s the definition:

verb (used without object), sprang or, often, sprung; sprung; spring·ing

to rise, leap, move, or act suddenly and swiftly, as by a sudden dart or thrust forward or outward, or being suddenly released from a coiled or constrained position

to be released from a constrained position, as by resilient or elastic force or from the action of a spring:

WHAT IS SPRING GOING TO MEAN FOR YOU?

Everybody embraces the Spring season differently. For some they may be thinking “oh no allergy season” while others are excited about the outdoor excursions, travel, fun sundresses and more. Spiritually I have really been feeling “something” about this Spring season (2023) and I’m leaning into it. I sense there is an opening of new doors, opportunities and manifestations of some prayers. I also feel like this will be a season for those who have been in a low and dark place to finally experience a finality, walk into a winning season and have joy for the mourning. GOOD MORNING Spring is here. Let me encourage you to sit with God and dial into what you truly need. Seek the wisdom of God and according to His will for you in this season align yourself and surrender. Only GOOD can come from that posture. Position your heart. Ok, let’s get into this holistic spring cleaning.

FOR THE MIND

Question to ask ourselves can be, “how can I cleanse my thinking and align my thought life with God’s plans for my life?” And maybe you don’t know what the plans for your life are, that’s fine. Consider praying for clarity during this season.

What do you meditate on? What has the focus of your mind? what conversations do you entertain internally?) Remember that what you allow to dominate your mental space will eventually take over your physical space; it will control your behavior and your point of view. I am reminded of the scripture Philippians 4:8 (Amplified translation) “…whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].”

Break down the areas of wellness for the journey to strong mental well-being

What does cleansing look like for my relationships? for my finances? for my career? for my personal aspirations? for my health? The MENTAL cleansing is centered on the narrative that you establish for these areas.

You can do these things mentally section by section but I would recommend that you workshop them by writing them/documenting them in some way.

What/Who has you out-of-balance that you need to check your alignment with? Easy does it you don’t have to turn the entire ship around in a day; allow these questions to help prompt your own.

FOR THE BODY

Think about what would do your body good. Consider physical treatments like massages, chiropractic alignments, acupuncture and other complementary therapies that will not only help you exhale but will boost your lymphatic system, muscles and organs. If it’s been awhile since you’ve had body treatment then now would be a good time. As the weather in your area changes you can consider how you want to enhance your physical activity. Engage in exercise that incorporates groups as well as individual enjoyment. Don’t forget about plenty of hugs and appreciating your body. To be well physically also means that your body needs your love, kind words and appreciation. Remember, the body is your vehicle that carries you through life; the ups the downs and the in-betweens. I have had my podcast friends on a campaign this year to walk more. It’s been a great choice to clear the mind, enjoy the outdoors, have a talk with God, build cardio endurance and approach wellness in a measurable way. Walking helps to activate muscles and research even shows that 2,000 steps a day can help lower fatality of premature death (by 8-11%).

FOR THE SPIRIT

It may be the last mentioned but it is the most important. The spirit is the main control unit of your entire being. What you believe in and how you govern/order/live your life according to that belief is the holistic path. Distractions, idolatries, temptations of life and other maternal satisfactions don’t sway you from your spiritual belief. This is why it is our critical compass. When the soul fails the spirit is our anchor. For me it is 100% my faith. It doesn’t guarantee me a life with no pain but it does grant me wisdom, guidance and a divine security that when I’m at my weakest it’s ok and the Creator God is able to steer the ship while I sleep, cry or retreat awhile. Let me say that its not just about the low points but it also rides high for the biggest moments of my life. It confirms promise and it manifests everything that I am deserving of. Woooo what a faith. So check in with your spirit daily. Don’t allow the traffic of life to distance you.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR HOME

Is it time to attack that closet? It’s perfect timing to swap out the winter clothes and bring in the spring ones. What can you give away or sale? Make room make space. You don’t have to replace the space with more enjoy a little openness and freedom from clutter. What other spaces are there to consider? Well let’s see; the garage, food pantry, utility closets, home office just to name a few. Take it a little at a time, put on some music and get to work! If you’ve got a really good friend or two I would say make it a Spring Fling party!

Try this DIY formula for cleaning:

Mix these ingredients together- 4 oz distilled water, 4 oz distilled white vinegar, 12-15 drops of melaleuca oil, 12-15 drops of lemon and one spray bottle.

Citrus is great because it’s highly concentrated and is great smelling. You don’t have to be overly concerned about chemicals or kids getting into your supplies.
